first blog post babey. hell yeah now we're cookin with Website .

Hello! It's me, Vivy-NX. As of late, I've been doing some updates here and there to this old website, after a couple of years of inactivity. I've been busy with a lot in my life. Get this- I've even gotten to know other people who make websites. Crazy stuff. In all seriousness though, I started work on this website around 2023 into 2024, but then I got sidetracked as I always do with projects like this.

Initially, this whole site was all manually constructed, and I learned a lot doing it that way, but in the end I think all I really ended up getting done in that initial burst of production was a bio post (which . I want to leave on the site somewhere, but also it's just Soooo long and rambling... Nothing new for me, but maybe could stand to be redone, as far as a more proper 'about' page goes.. ), some half decent looking CSS, a cute 404 page and a homepage. Having to manually change things so they aligned on each page was kinda annoying and probably contributed a bit to me burning out before I could properly fill out what was originally going to be some sort of 'Projects' navbar tab, which for now I've simply replaced with the Blog tab.

Around 2025, having met a friend who had been developing a website, I asked how she had been running her site, and she mentioned that she used a static site generator. Not one she reccommended, as a Jekyll user she described the platform as "barely clinging to life"-- so instead she reccomended me Pelican. I gave that a try not too long after, but I bounced off of it because I didn't wanna try to remake my whole layout and CSS stuff to jam it into the systems Pelican expected. I liked that I could get a site with a nice basic layout and CSS going as easily as I could, and I definitely could have thrown together "a blog" much sooner if I did just accept that, but I'm particular about my site's visuals, and given how much trouble I had trying to figure out what I was supposed to put where to make my site look like how I had it already, I ended up focusing on other things for another long while.

A little later, I'd heard of a static site generator called 11ty. I didn't think too much of it at first because I kind of just assumed it wouldn't be all that different from Pelican, or whatever other option I might have ended up going with for a static site generator, but recently, for a little over a week I've been poking at it trying to get my stuff set up. I was very pleased at how quickly (over the course of one night, basically!) I was able to import my existing handwritten HTML and CSS for use in my new 11ty project, and from there, it's been a lot easier for me to put together new additions- whether to CSS, site layouts, page content, or whatever else there is going on here.

So that's the news, pretty much. Site builds off of a local 11ty project I have now. Also I'm using a script with the Neocities API to push my site changes, so that I don't have to futz around with manually changing pages around. All in all it's pretty nice! I haven't planned to do a super huge amount of things with the blog in particular-- but I have a number of things I'd still like to do with the site, like putting together an art gallery for some of my artwork that used to only be accessible on Tumblr, or Twitter (god forbid), as well as probably some other stuff that I haven't publicly posted anywhere.. I'd also like to write more about the projects I've worked on over time, and maybe put together some sort of catalogue of OCs I've created. I wanna have RSS feeds for things, like my friends do..! I think the most likely (initial) use case for the blog is for site updates, so maybe stay tuned for those as I continue working on the blog. I don't wanna force all my blog posts to be nearly this formal also I think, because I'd like to Chill as it were.

In any case, I'm happy to be working on my website again. Thanks for reading! I hope you are having fun looking at my website. ^w^ (also secretly this was a test of how well I like using Markdown for the simpler posts on the site. It's alright.)

..Also I have to put yoshi_in_hell.png to inaugurate the beginning of the blog.

"yoshi in hell.png". A picture of what appears to be a Super Mario World romhack in which a green baby Yoshi has been surrounded by grassy tiles. It seems like the Yoshi is stuck but also it is smiling just as usual, so maybe it's fine. I like the image a lot and show it to every person I know.
